Organizations Connected to the University

  • Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology
    Since 1991, the Max Planck Institute has been researching microbiological ecology emphasizing biogeochemistry, biochemistry, eco-physiology, and organic interactions.
     
  • Herder Institute (an Institute of the Leibniz Society)
    Since it was founded in 1950, this institute has been one of the primary institutions for historical research on Eastern and Central Europe in Germany. It is an external institution financed by the federal and state governments and it fulfils the functions of a research Centre and service provider.
     
  • State Office of Hessen for Historical Regional Studies
    This office, which is run by the Hessian Ministry for Higher Education and Art, was founded in 1920. It was initially operated as a private organization and now has the tasks of promoting historical regional studies and engaging in basic research.
     
  • Marburg State Archive of Hessen
     
  • Marburg Archive School
    This school, the main institution for education in archive studies in the Germany, has been training archivists for middle and higher-level civil service positions for more than 50 years.
     
  • German Institute for the Blind
    Since it was founded in 1916, the German Institute for the Blind has developed from small beginnings to become the main Centre of higher education for the blind and the visually impaired in Germany and beyond.
     
  • German Game Archive
    The German Game Archive has set itself the task of documenting game production from 1945 until the present day and thus to create a basis for intensive analysis and academic reflection on the development of games in our time and age.
