ECAR is funded by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung, BMZ).
The ministry is active in eleven partner countries in the region. Cooperation aims to enhance the foundations for self-sustaining development with the countries in the region, in order to close the gap between Europe and the Arab world.

GIZ conducts a lot of development projects on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and other ministries. It provides technical expertise as well as management know-how in the field of sustainable development.
