Neurolinguistics Group
The neurolinguistics group at the University of Marburg (headed by Prof. Bornkessel-Schlesewsky) studies the neurocognitive bases of human language comprehension. A particular focus of our work lies on questions of cross-linguistic unity and diversity: How does the human brain process the 6000-8000 existing human languages? Which aspects of the neural language implementation are similar across typologically diverse languages and which aspects differ according to language-specific properties? We explore these questions using electrophysiology and functional magnetic resonance imaging complemented by behavioural techniques including eye-tracking.
