    Studying chemistry at the Rhenish-Westphalian Technical University Aachen.
    Diploma at Aachen in 1973.

  • 1974–1976:
    Research student in the group of Prof. Kenichi Fukui in Kyoto (Japan).

  • 1976–1979:
    Doctoral work at the Technical University Berlin.
    Ph.D. thesis: Semiempirical calculations of phosphorous(III)compounds

  • 1979–1984:
    Habilitation at the Technical University Berlin.
    MO-SCF-Studies of the structures and reactivities of molecules in the gas phase, TU Berlin, 1984.

  • 1984–1985:
    Visiting scientist at the University of California, Berkeley, in the group of Prof. H.F. Schaefer III.

  • 1985–1989:
    Staff scientist at the Stanford Research Institute (SRI International) in Menlo Park, California. Research in structure-activity relationship and molecular modeling of nonpeptide opiates.

  • 1990–1998:
    C3-Professor for Computational Chemistry at the Philipps-Universität Marburg.

  • 1998–
    C4-Professor for Theoretical Chemistry at the Philipps-Universität Marburg.
