The present research focus  in the Marahiel group is on the structure-function relationship and on the elucidation of reaction mechanisms of modular peptide synthetases involved in the ribosomal and nonribosomal synthesis of peptide antibiotics and siderophores. Also the group is interested in studying the structure-function relationship of proteins associated with metal acquisition in soil bacteria as well as other stress-induced proteins.
