Animal Development and Physiology

Groups in the fields of Developmental Biology, Animal Morphology and Evolution, and Animal Physiology study animals of different organizational levels, especially cnidarians, annelids, insects and mammals. Research foci are muscle development, gametogenesis, evolution of morphogenesis-related signalling cascades, development, plasticity and function of the nervous system, and the physiological basis of energy metabolism. Research techniques include molecular genetics, protein biochemistry, pharmacology, electrophysiology, electron microscopy, 3D reconstructions, and behavioral analyses.
