We are analysing processes of dispersal, reproduction, establishment and performance of organisms on different scales. These scales span over the whole range of species down to the landscape and the individual level. Mainly, we are interested in the dynamics of genetic diversity that are governing these processes. Once we know about the processes and mechanisms we may understand the effects of habitat losses and fragmentation due to e.g., Global Change or regional land use including river regulations.
Computer modelling is done to understand the genetic consequences of dispersal mechanisms including risk assessment of vertical gene transfer.
In our analyses we are using a range of methods:
- molecular and population genetics
- vegetation ecological methods
- computer simulation models
- multivariate statistics
Our main focus is on vascular plants in forests and riparian
ecosystems. Trees are model organisms in our working group.
We are enjoying research in international programmes and projects.
Together with colleagues from the paleobotany, molecular genetics,
sociobiology, geography, hydrology and economy we are forth driving
interdisciplinary research and other activities.
