SFB 395:
Interaction, Adaption and Catalytic Abilities of Soil Microbiota

There are many different micro organisms living in the ecosystem soil. They interact with plants, substrates and among each other and have currently to face changing life conditions, especially in regard of the availability of limiting nutrients, temperature and osmolarity.

The changes in life conditions means that metabolism reactions cannot take place under conditions as stable as for example gut inhabiting bacteria are provided with by their host who keeps those parameters at a defined level. The catalysis of determined biochemical reactions so may be proceeded on novel ways or by yet unknown mechanisms.

The Collaborative Research Centre (Sonderforschungsbereich = SFB) focuses on the comprehension of the conditions which soil micro biota require in order to survive despite of the constantly changing external parameters, of their interactions with different organisms and of novel catalytic mechanisms, as they are typical for soil micro biota.
