Sergey Kondrakov
Sergey Kondrakov graduated from Viatka State University of Humanities, Kirov (faculty of philology). At the present time he is a post-graduate student of Moscow State University, Department of Foreign Literatures. His interests are English and French literatures of decadence and modernism.
The topic of my dissertation project is "The Problem of Culture in the Works of D.H. Lawrence". The problem of culture various definitions of which were made by F. Nietzsche, O. Spengler, N. Berdyaev etc. becomes a major part of D.H. Lawrence’s reflection in modernism. The first aspect of my investigation can be formulated as the existence of man in culture in a situation of "the decline of the West". The second aspect concerns the man itself presented as a set of oppositions (intellect/instinct (blood), conscious/subconscious, cultural memory/natural memory). The third aspect covers D.H. Lawrence’s understanding of religion and of what I call "comparative culturology". Criticizing the traditional (historical) forms of religion Lawrence had tried at the same time to give a definition to his new "Religion of flesh".
