Getting to Marburg by car
If you are driving to Marburg from Frankfurt, you take the highway A5, following the signs directing you towards the city Kassel. This will take you to Marburg via Gießen, where you will get on the highway A485 and follow the signs directing you towards Marburg. This highway leads into the through-road B3 (keep left) which then goes directly to Marburg.
If you are coming from Kassel, you will also need to get on the through-road B3 (depending on your departure location, first the A49 then the B3), and follow the signs directing you to Marburg.
Once you are on the B3 and have reached Marburg
- Take the exit “Marburg-Mitte” and follow the signs to the “Stadtmitte”
- This will take you over a bridge covering the river Lahn.
- Keep in the right lane when going over the bridge and follow the road to the right. This will take you to downtown Marburg and the university.
Getting to Marburg by train
It is easy to travel to Marburg from most major cities in Germany. You will probably have to travel via Frankfurt or Kassel, or at least in that direction with Marburg en route. Once you have arrived in Marburg main station (this is the station “Marburg/Lahn”, not “Marburg/Südbahnhof”), you must cross the main street (cross the lanes traveling in both directions) and go to the bus stop on the right side of the road. You can reach the center of town and the university easy from the train station: The buses with the numbers 1, 3, 5, 6 und 7 will take you into the city. To get to the university, you would exit the bus at the station "Am Rudolphsplatz".

Travel by plane and train
The Frankfurt Airport (Flughafen Frankfurt) has an integrated train station enabling train travel to local, regional and long-distance destinations. When choosing a train, please note that several kinds of trains may go in the same direction you wish to travel: long-distance trains are usually faster, but in turn more expensive than regional trains.
Regional trains
The station for regional trains (Regionalbahnhof) is located in
Terminal 1, on the level (-1). Here you can take local trains
(S-Bahn), or regional and short-distance trains. You may need to take
an S-Bahn to Frankfurt Main Station and then go from there to
Marburg.
Information and tickets: You can find information about which
trains to take and how to buy tickets at the information point for
regional traffic, located under the airport main floors
("RMV-Mobilitätszentrale unterm Flughafen") in Terminal 1, area B,
level 0 (Ankunft/Arrivals).
You can purchase your ticket for regional trains using the automated
machines (Fahrkartenautomaten des RMV) located in this area.
Please note that you must purchase your ticket before entering the
train. If you use inter-city-connections (trains labelled IC and ICE),
additional fees may apply.
You must look for a train or S-Bahn that will take you to Frankfurt
main station (Hauptbahnhof), where you will then take a connecting
train to Marburg. You depart the train at the station “Marburg/Lahn”,
not “Marburg Süd”. From the Marburg main station you can take a bus to
the city center (using the bus stop across from the train station, i.e.
you must cross the main roads to get to the other side), using bus
numbers 1, 3, 5, 6 und 7. You get off the bus at the bus stop "Am
Rudolphsplatz".
