Aims and Content:

Marshall McLuhan, professor for English literature, is considered one of the most important media theoreticians for contemporary media. His dictum "the medium is the message" has received multifarious interpretations. The course concentrates, besides the media theories of Marshall McLuhan, on their reception and their validity today. The focus will be on the question of the dimensions of McLuhan's media theory and media practice. We will discuss McLuhan's thinking in theory, film and media art.
