North American Studies (M.A.)
Brief Outline of the Program
The master’s degree program will deal with the complex literatures
and cultures of North America (USA and Canada) as well as their
interdependence and correlation with Latin America and the Caribbean.
It will offer prospective students interdisciplinary teaching and the
latest academic research. Above all, the program will focus on the
multi-facetted interculturality of the respective countries by
incorporating recently developed research methods and approaches, also
in a transnational perspective. Moreover, students will obtain
additional comprehensive knowledge and can specialize in the fields of
Gender Studies, Popular Cultures and Technologies of Cultures.
Students can enroll in the program at the beginning of each winter semester only. Applications must be submitted by July 15 to Philipps-Universität Marburg. For applicants with a foreign-university entrance qualification, the terms of application may slightly differ; see also the information on admission below. Admission to the master degree’s program is not restricted.
Applications must have reached Philipps-Universität Marburg by July 15th for winter semester, by January 14th for summer semester.
Applications coming in later may be taken into consideration, if
there are openings left and the organization of the admission procedure
allows for it. Conditions of application may be different for
applicants with foreign qualifications. For further information cf.

Admission requirements

1 If the requirements stated above are not met, the
examination board will decide on a case-by-case basis. The examination
board can require the subsequent completion of additional
subject-specific modules of up to 12 credit points.
