The two-year Musikwissenschaft. Geschichte und Vermittlung / Musicology. History and Presentation master's program qualifies you to scientifically approach the subject matter of European-western musical history: the aesthetic subject matter itself, its institutional, cultural context, historical theory construction and - last but not least - the historical variability of what is considered music and what is considered musical art. This occurs primarily in problem and case-based seminars that aim to link research and teaching.
Major topics
The major topics of the Marburg Institute are older musical history up to the start of the 17th Century and musical history from the 18th to the early 20th Century.
Objectives
The Musikwissenschaft. Geschichte und Vermittlung / Musicology. History and Presentation master's program prepares you for professions which require solid, discipline-specific training. Fields of activity include:
- University research
- Publication projects
- Publishers (editing)
- Libraries (higher civil service)
- Press, radio, television
- Musical theater/orchestral dramaturgy
In addition, you will learn the skills that are required to successfully carry out a doctoral project.
Admission requirements
Required university degree We require proof that you have completed a relevant Bachelor's degree program in the field of Musicology or proof of a comparable domestic or foreign university degree qualifying you for a profession. Relevance exists if relevant modules from the field of Musicology amounting to at least 48 credit points (CP) have been completed in the degree program. A relevant course of study already exists in the case of a relevant minor course of study with at least 48 CP.
