Awards and Prizes of the University of Marburg

The University of Marburg recognizes outstanding scientific and scholarly achievements with numerous awards.

Overview

These awards honor scientists and researchers from all disciplines. The award winners consist of researchers from the University of Marburg itself and from other institutions.

Emil von Behring Prize of the University of Marburg

In memory of Emil von Behring, the University of Marburg awards the Emil von Behring Prize for outstanding scientific achievements in the fields of immunology, microbiology, or virology. The prize consists of a medal with the portrait of Emil von Behring and prize money of 20,000 euro. The prize money is provided by the Behringwerke Marburg companies. 

Brothers Grimm Prize of the University of Marburg

In memory of the brothers Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, the University of Marburg awards the Brothers Grimm Prize. The prize honors outstanding achievements in the research fields of the brothers Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, namely, linguistics and literature, folklore, legal history, and history. The medals and monetary awards are provided by the Hessian Ministry for Science and the Arts. 

The Marburg Camera Prize

The Marburg Camera Prize is awarded for nationally and internationally outstanding camerawork in film and television. It honors the complete works of a cinematographer, whether they be already established exemplary and groundbreaking achievements, or the outstanding work of still unknown cinematographers. The Marburg Camera Award is presented annually by the City of Marburg and University of Marburg as part of the Marburg Camera Talks. The prize is endowed with 5,000 euro. 

Prize for the Advancement of Women of the University of Marburg

This award, which is endowed with 2,500 euro, is presented every two years. 

Teaching Prize “Lehre@Philipp“ of the University of Marburg

The “Lehre@Philipp” competition rewards projects that introduce an evident innovation to teaching or that contribute to the dissemination of concepts being tested. Other criteria include the fostering of motivation and enthusiasm for the subject, a solid link between theory and practice, and the promoting of an open dialog between teachers and students.
