Philosophie / Philosophy (Master of Arts)

Program: Philosophie / Philosophy
Degree: Master of Arts (M.A.)
Program length: 2 years / 4 semesters (120 ECTS points)
Start: winter and summer semester

The Philosophie / Philosophy master's program, based on current research, is directed to students who have completed a bachelor's program (particularly that of Philosophy in Marburg) or an equivalent program with above-average success.

You will not only deepen and expand your philosophical knowledge and analytical methods, but will already be introduced to the current topics and working methods of the academic discipline in research and teaching and will actively participate in research and teaching with the support of instructors. The renowned practice of philosophy at the Philipp University of Marburg, both in a historical and systematic respect, guarantees that students will be qualified for professional work, particularly in the academic field, and for the doctorate.

Major topics

A major topic is formed through elective options in basic, advanced and practical modules, whereby the Marburg research profile offers special opportunities with its alignment with Kant research and the Enlightenment (both in terms of historical epoch and systematic thought collective).

Objectives

There remains a marked discrepancy between the study and profession of philosophy. The profession of philosopher, as a university instructor, is open to only a few. In addition to this prospect for graduates on a career path as university professor, however, a number of professional fields have developed whose profile of requirements match the expertise profile of the “Philosophie / Philosophy” master's program. Specifically, these include:

Adult education, specialist publishing, newspapers, magazines, radio and television, philosophical consulting, librarians, administrative specialists in higher civil service, organizational, consulting and management jobs in governmental administrative, cultural and business management departments.
