International criminal justice is a relatively new field in teaching and research and has increasingly become the focus of academic training since the 1990s. Based on several years of interdisciplinary teaching and research experience of the ICWC, and as part of a cooperation between the departments of Law, History and Cultural Studies, and Social Sciences and Philosophy, an interdisciplinary and innovative Master's programme "International Criminal Justice: Law, History, Politics" with a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree will be offered at Philipps-Universität Marburg from 2020.

Objectives

Graduates of the Master's programme "International Criminal Justice: Law, History, Politics" will enter the labour market with well-founded and interdisciplinary knowledge, as well as professional, methodological, social and personal skills that are in demand in numerous professional fields, including in particular:

  • International and internationalised courts
  • National and international organisations for combating international and transnational crime
  • Other national and international institutions in related fields (e.g. human rights, transitional justice)
  • Foreign ministries, justice ministries, interior ministries, defence ministries, parliaments
  • International and national non-governmental organisations, think tanks and foundations
  • Museums, memorials, archives, documentation centres
  • Media, Public Relations, Journalism
  • Publishing houses (e.g. as an editor)
  • Science (universities, research institutions)

    Required university degree

    Evidence of successful completion of the
    - First State Examination in Law
    or
    - of a relevant Bachelor's degree programme in the field of

    • Social Sciences
    • Philosophy
    • Economics
    • Media Studies
    • Psychology
    • Regional Sciences
    • Geography
    • Religious Studies
    • Gender Studies
    • Archival and Documentation Studies or Translation Studies
    • or proof of a comparable domestic or foreign university professional degree.

    Admission may be subject to the condition that additional coursework and/or examinations amounting to a maximum of 30 CP are completed. In such cases, the degree programme may be prolonged accordingly.

    In addition to the general and special admission requirements, participation in individual modules or parts of modules can be made dependent on the fulfilment of specific module admission requirements.

    Provide proof of proficiency in English at level B2 of the "Common European Framework of Reference for Languages". If no proof of language proficiency is available by the application deadline, enrolment may take place under the condition that proof is provided by the time of re-registration for the 2nd semester.
