The objective of the multidisciplinary and international Abenteuer- und Erlebnispädagogik / Adventure and Experiential Education master's program is to teach tried and proven specialized knowledge and methods that relate to the systematic analysis of the phenomena of adventure and experience in their societal framing, their importance for human ontogenesis, their potential for educational and developmental processes and to the European dimension of the educational approach. In addition, students become qualified to organize adventure education and experiential education support processes and interventions, and for competent safety behavior.

The major topic of the Abenteuer- und Erlebnispädagogik / Adventure and Experiential Education master's program in Marburg is the scientific examination of the phenomena of adventure and experience and their developmental content. It occurs through theoretical events, such as seminars and lectures, which are supplemented by adventurous practical units.

Objectives

Successful graduates of the Abenteuer- und Erlebnispädagogik / Adventure and Experiential Education master's program can work in the following fields, for example:

Youth support: The diverse domains of youth support services probably represent the broadest field of activity for adventure and experiential education qualification profiles. Particular examples are: public youth work, residential homes, child and adolescent psychiatry, individual educational measures as residential or travel projects, group work, community work, daycare facilities, school social work.

Schools: Teachers with adventure and experiential educational qualification profiles are of great interest for the concept of full-time school. The same applies for school types – such as country school hostels – that also take activity-oriented forms of learning into consideration in their work.

Outdoor trainings: As the human resources development concepts of companies such as the Deutsche Bank or the Deutsche Bahn AG now take outdoor trainings into consideration, fields of work in the companies or consulting agencies that offer and hold corresponding trainings have now opened up.

Universities: It is anticipated that increasingly more universities, universities of applied sciences and technical colleges will develop study and training programs in Adventure and Experiential Education. This will open up another field of work for academically trained Adventure and Experiential educators.

Independent work: The "outdoors" represents a market that will presumably continue to grow over the next several years. On the basis of the acquired qualification profile, successful graduates can also offer their expertise as an independent entrepreneur in a variety of fields, or join an already existing company.

Abroad: With its international study components, the qualification profile also opens up the possibility of applying for corresponding positions abroad.

  • Admission requirements

    Education certificates A completed bachelor's program or equivalent university or university of applied sciences degree in the subjects of Educational Science, Outdoor Education, Teaching Training or Social Work, Social Education, Social Services. Furthermore, applicants with other specializations (such as Kinesiology and Sports Science) can be admitted insofar as certification of fundamental educational science knowledge and methodological skills is produced of at least 45 ECTS.

    Admission may be subject to the condition that additional coursework and/or examinations amounting to a maximum of 30 CP must be completed. In this case, the course may be extended accordingly.

    Due to the special sports motor requirements of the course, specific sports motor requirements must be proven for admission to the course. This is done by providing proof of a medical examination for fitness for sport and physical resilience (medical certificate, informal from the doctor, not older than six months). The certificate should state that, from a medical point of view, there is nothing to prevent the applicant from studying Adventure and Experiential Education and that the applicant is physically able to work under pressure without restriction.
