Printing on Copiers in Mixed Mode

From IT workstations (Windows, MAC, LINUX), you can print on copiers in mixed mode by installing the "QPilot-Client" software. The print job is not sent directly to a selected copier, but to a central printer queue. The "QPilot-Client" allows the input of the own card number. You can then iniciate the print by inserting the corresponding chip card (Ucard for students and guests, copy card or service card for employees) into the card reader at any copier in mixed mode (Follow-Me-Print).

Installation of the software client: QPilot-Client

This installation is only necessary at IT-workstations for which the University Computer Center is not in charge of software maintenance (via opsi).

Printing

The following procedure is necessary to send a print job from IT workstations (description for printing with screen shots):

  • Select "File - Print" in the menu bar of the document to be printed.
  • The print window opens. You can make various settings, including the selection of the printer:
    • For black and white: Printer selection: "Public_SchwarzWeiss
    • For color: Selection of the printer: "Public_Farbe
  • Confirm the print with "OK".
  • A dialog box opens for entering your card number.
  • The print is finally sent by clicking on "Weiter".

If you have sent one or more print jobs, they are temporarily stored in a queue on a central print server (QPilot Server). Uncollected jobs are deleted after three days.

A card reader for inserting chip cards is attached to each copier in mixed mode. Printing on a copier is only possible if you insert a chip card (Ucard or copy card) in the card reader. Each printed page is either debited from the credit (wallet) of the Ucard for students and guests or booked to the deposited cost center for employees via a copy card. In the case of business cards, after entering the card, the system asks whether the user wants to log in privately (from the credit balance) or on business (on cost center). If the credit balance (both Ucard and, if applicable, service card) is used, the current credit balance is shown on the LCD display of the externally connected card reader.

The user can select the print jobs to be printed from the list of print jobs assigned to the Staff Account.

If you want to carry out print jobs at a copier in mixed mode, please proceed as follows:

  • Insert the chip card into the card reader.
  • Select and start print jobs that you want to carry out in the on-screen menu of the card reader.
  • Remove the chip card from the card reader after the printing process is finished.
