ZUSAMMENFASSUNG: Mittels eines aus den derzeit sechzehneinhalb Bänden des Schweizerischen Idiotikons sowie dessen Quellen gewonnenen Korpus, das die Zeitspanne vom 13. bis ins 21. Jahrhundert umfasst, werden im ersten Teil des Aufsatzes die bislang wenig bekannte Frequenz des Gerundiums im schweizerischen Deutsch des Spätmittelalters und der Frühneuzeit erfasst sowie die areale Verbreitung in den schweizerdeutschen Dialekten zwischen 1700 und 1950 rekonstruiert. Im zweiten Teil wird die Entwicklung der sich mehrfach wandelnden und neu formierenden gerundialen Morphologie auf dem Gebiet der heutigen Schweiz und der norditalienischen Südwalserorte vom Hochmittelalter bis in die Gegenwart analysiert.

ABSTRACT: By means of a corpus drawn from the currently sixteen and a half volumes of the Schweizerisches Idiotikon and its sources, covering the period from the 13th to the 21st century, the first part of the paper records the hitherto little-known frequency of the gerund in Swiss German of the late Middle Ages and the Early Modern Period as well as reconstructing the areal distribution in Swiss German dialects between 1700 and 1950. In the second part, the development of the repeatedly changing and newly forming gerundial morphology on the territory of present-day Switzerland and the Northern Italian Walser villages from the High Middle Ages to the present is analysed.
