Klaus Harms studied chemistry at the University of Göttingen (Germany). In 1980, he obtained the Diploma in Chemistry (Diploma thesis with Prof G.M. Sheldrick) and 1984 a PhD in natural sciences from the University of Göttingen (thesis with Prof. Dr. L.F. Tietze).
Subsequently, he worked in a project regarding to “Patterson Search Methods” (Dr. Egert, Prof. Sheldrick) at the University of Göttingen and since 1986 as a crystallographer in the “Sonderforschungsbereich 260” at the University of Marburg.
In 1991 he became a regular member of the Central Laboratory of Crystallography at the Chemistry Department at the University of Marburg. Since 2009 he is head of this laboratory.
His research focuses on the crystal structure determination of inorganic, metal organic and organic compounds, especially “problem structures” containing disorder or twinning problems.
Klaus Harms offers block courses in practical crystallography for students who want to use this method during their graduate work.
Klaus Harms is member of the German Chemical Society (GdCh) and the German Crystallographic Society (DGKr).
