HERSS Summer School 2026 – Global Citizenship in Higher Education Research
The HERSS Summer School 2026 focuses on International perspectives on higher education research and science studies, with a special emphasis on global citizenship. The event aims to strengthen international exchange, disseminate current research, and foster long-term scholarly collaboration across regions and disciplines.

The Summer School will take place at Justus Liebig University Giessen (Germany) from 28 September to 2 October 2026 and will be held alongside two major events:
- the final conference of WP2 of the HESPRI Project, and
- the German-Sino Higher Education Forum.
Against the backdrop of global political and societal transformations and a partial retreat from globalization, the Summer School highlights the continued importance of international cooperation in higher education and research. It provides a space for critical reflection on changes in higher education systems, governance, teaching, research, and knowledge transfer, while engaging with diverse national and global perspectives.
The program invites doctoral candidates and early-career researchers in higher education research and science studies from around the world, with senior researchers also welcome to participate. Selected participants will present their research projects, receive peer feedback, and engage in keynote lectures and workshops led by international experts.
Applicants are required to submit:
- a motivation letter (approx. 250 words), and
- a research abstract (approx. 500 words) outlining their theoretical framework, methodology, and main research question.
