    Katrin Sold has been a research fellow at the Department of Politics of the Centre for Near and Middle Eastern Studies (CNMS) at Philipps University Marburg since 2015. Her research focuses on political and socio-economic transformation processes in North Africa, labour market and economic policy in the Maghreb states, as well as start-up entrepreneurship and the middle classes in the Arab world.

    She is writing her doctoral thesis on the topic "Startup entrepreneurs as driving forces of social change? Economic Agency and Social Transformation in Morocco and Tunisia" and regularly publishes analyses and policy papers as well as media articles on its research topics. She is co-editor of the series MENAdirekt and the journal "META - Middle East Topics and Arguments".

    Prior to her position in Marburg, Katrin Sold was a research fellow at the Research Institute of the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP) in Berlin from 2009 to 2015, of which she is still an Associate Fellow.

    As a visiting researcher she worked at the Institut de Recherche sur le Maghreb contemporain (IRMC) in Tunis, the École de Gouveranance et d'Économie in Rabat and the Institut français des relations internationales (Ifri) in Paris. Katrin Sold studied political science and modern German literature in Berlin and Toulouse.
