Perspectives

A degree in Economics prepares students for work in associations, public authorities and non-governmental organisations at the national and international level, in business and political consulting, in the media, and in the middle management throughout the private sector. But in particular, the Bachelor's degree in Economics is a necessary prerequisite for an eventual Master’s degree in Business and Economics (or interdisciplinary Master's degree programmes), which in turn offer the prospect of a doctorate and an academic career.

The goal of the Bachelor's programme in Economics is therefore to train students in three skill areas.

  1. academic expertise, by mastering the basic theories and methods of economics;
  2. practical expertise, i.e. the ability to apply the specialized expertise the student acquires; as well as
  3. interdisciplinary expertise and key qualifications, which serve to help contend with constantly changing requirements of the professional environment, both in theory and in practice.

Solid academic training is highly valued at the School of Business and Economics, but there is also discussion of more practical content. The international orientation of the course material, the availability of events in English and the option of spending a semester abroad prepare students for an increasingly international and dynamic working environment.

Graduates who choose to enter the working world right away should take advantage of the numerous projects, lectures and initiatives offered by the School of Business and Economics and the University of Marburg to teach important soft skills, provide practical working experience and help students with the application process and the job search. These can be found, e.g. at the Career Center of the School of Business and Economics, the Student Initiatives, or the University’s Career Center (only available in German).
