22.05.2024 Visit from Mohammad Momenian from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University
Visit from Hong Kong
In May 2024, the ViLU group hosted Mohammad Momenian, Research Assistant professor at Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His research focuses on how language-specific properties influence the neural representation and processing of languages in the brain, with a strong emphasis on bilingualism and the role of individual differences.
On May 15, Mo gave a talk in the Linguistic Colloquium titled "The effects of bilingualism on cognitive and linguistic skills," providing an overview of his research.
Mo and Florian also obtained an internal grant from Hong Kong Polytechnic University, which they will use to develop some of the Dutch IDLaS tests in Cantonese. They also used the visit to discuss ideas for future projects on the influence of literacy on spoken language processing, with a special focus on the transparency of the orthographic system.
