Welcome to the gender equality officers area of the FB 13

We owe the existance of gender equality officers at the University of Marburg to the Hessian law on gender equality and the reduction of discrimination against women in public administration (Hessian Equal Opportunities Act - HGlG) in the version of January 1, 2016.

The objectives of the law are to achieve equal opportunities for women and men, to improve the compatibility of work and family life and to eliminate the current under-representation of women in the civil service. Pending the achievement of this objective, the promotion of women's employment, based on women's promotion plans with binding targets, should improve access, promotion and working conditions for women.

The faculty's gender equality officers are elected at the department's Women's General Assembly and subsequently appointed by the Dean for two years. The last election took place on December 5, 2017.

Our most important tasks:

  • We are the contact persons for all female students and staff of the department regarding questions on promotion of women and equal opportunities.
  • We are available as points of contact in cases of discrimination based on sex and sexual harassment (Philipps University's Directive on Protection against Sexual Harassment and Violence), as well as any other delicate matter you would prefer to discuss with a woman (e.g. any questions or concerns regarding pregnancy).
  • We are involved in the preparation and revision of the FB Women Support Plan by the Gender Equality Commission of the department and contribute to its implementation.
  • We are involved in staff appointment procedures and participate in the interviews after consultation with the Central Gender Equality Officer.
  • We advise on relevant committee meetings to represent the interests and concerns of women at the faculty and university level.
  • We participate in meetings of the gender equality officers organized by the Central Gender Equality Officer.
  • We hold a women's assembly at least once a year.
  • We are responsible for the forwarding of information on women-relevant topics and events. For this we have set up a mailing list. If you would like to become part of this list, simply send one of us an appropriate email. Of course, the same applies if you want to be removed from the list.
  • We have created an information page, largely in the form of a collection of links, on topics such as "Promotion of Female Scientists", "Compatibility of Family and Study or Occupation", "Protection from Sexualized Violence" etc.

Suggestions and ideas for our work are always welcome.
