01.12.2025 Dr. Lukas Wagner receives Wilhelm and Else Heraeus Research Fellowship
We are delighted that our group member Dr. Lukas Wagner has been awarded one of the first Wilhelm and Else Heraeus Research Fellowships. The foundation is thus recognizing his outstanding contributions to photovoltaic research, in particular to sustainable, printable perovskite solar cells. The two-year fellowship is endowed with €100,000 and supports excellent young researchers in physics.
Since completing his PhD in 2022, Lukas' work has strengthened our research focus in the field of innovative solar cell technologies, optoelectronic measurement methods, and sustainability aspects of future PV systems. His expertise in special perovskite solar cells is internationally recognized, and he even holds a world record for efficiency in this field. In addition, he is involved in teaching and serves as the sustainability officer for the Department of Physics.
The new funding program of the Wilhelm and Else Heraeus Foundation is specifically aimed at outstanding young physicists and is intended to give them greater scientific freedom. Based in Hanau, the foundation is one of the most important private funding institutions for physics in Germany and has been supporting research, teaching, and scientific exchange in the natural sciences for many years.
Lukas Wagner emphasizes the importance of further research for a globally climate-neutral energy supply: New, scalable photovoltaic technologies and reliable measurement technology are crucial for quickly evaluating innovations and ensuring the long-term stability of solar cells.
We warmly congratulate Lukas on this significant award and look forward to the impulses that the fellowship will bring to our working group.
