24.11.2025 Solar Energy Research as a Topic at the 12th SMW Conference
At the 12th "Schule MIT Wissenschaft (SMW)" conference, held from November 7–9 at the Department of Physics and the Chemikum, our research group Physics of Solar Energy Conversion was pleased to contribute to this unique nationwide professional development event for STEM teachers.
Our group leader, Prof. Dr. Jan Christoph Goldschmidt, presented on the importance of solar energy for climate protection and highlighted how modern solar cell technologies—especially tandem and perovskite solar cells—have the potential to sustainably transform future energy generation.
For our group, the conference offered an excellent opportunity to share current research findings with teachers from across Germany while gaining valuable insights into how complex energy topics can be effectively integrated into school curricula. The exchange with participants clearly demonstrated the strong interest in innovative, research-based teaching approaches related to renewable energy.
We are delighted that our work helped underscore the importance of solar-energy research in the context of the climate crisis and supported educators in bringing forward-looking topics into the classroom. All conference presentations, including the contribution from our group , will soon be available in the Schule MIT Wissenschaft media library.
