Master of Arts (M.A.) International Criminal Justice: Law, History, Politics

International criminal justice is a relatively new teaching and research field, which has increasingly come into the focus of educational programmes since the 1990s. Drawing on the multi-year interdisciplinary research and teaching experience of the ICWC, as well as on the cooperation of the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of History and Cultural Sciences, and the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences, the Philipps University of Marburg will launch an innovative Master of Arts (M.A.) in International Criminal Justice in 2020.

The Master’s degree “International Criminal Justice (Law, History, Politics)” will annually be open to 15 students from all over the world. It is addressed to lawyers who have passed the First German State Examination in Law, as well as to graduates holding a Bachelor's degree - or a comparable degree by a German or foreign university - in the fields of law, history, social sciences, philosophy, economics, media sciences, psychology, regional sciences, geography, religious studies, gender studies, archive and documentation science, and translation studies.

Graduates of the Master’s programme "International Criminal Justice (Law, History, Politics)” will acquire interdisciplinary in-depth knowledge and skills which are in demand in numerous occupational fields, such as in:

  • International and internationalised courts and tribunals
  • National and international institutions combatting international and transnational crime
  • Other national and international institutions in adjacent fields (e.g. human rights, transitional justice)
  • Ministries of foreign affairs, ministries of justice, ministries of interior, ministries of defense, parliaments
  • International and national non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and think tanks
  • Museums, memorials, archives, documentation centres
  • Media, public relations, journalism
  • Publishing sector (e.g. as editors)
  • Universities, research institutions
