MArburg University Research Academy (MARA) has established scholarship programs to promote equal opportunity in academia as part of Philipps-Universität Marburg's equal opportunity policy. With funds from the Female Professors Program of the Federal Government and the States, scholarships are usually awarded once a year for the completion of dissertations or habilitations at Philipps-Universität Marburg as well as bridging scholarships for the continuation of an academic career at Philipps-Universität to outstanding female junior scholars. Through targeted support for women in all academic disciplines, Philipps-Universität Marburg aims to help increase the number of female scholars at all levels of qualification who are on their way to professorship and thereby make a positive contribution to the long-term integration of women in the academic system.

All scholarships require proof of exceptional academic quality.

Completion Scholarships

Completion scholarships are awarded for a maximum of six months and must commence in the current year. The dissertation or habilitation must be submitted at the end of the funding period.

As concerns the amount awarded and limits on additional income, the scholarships follow the guidelines for DFG Research Training Groups (see points 2.1.1 and 2.1.2, para. 2 and 3 of the Usage guidelines for Research Training Groups with instructions for the final report and regulations governing good scientific practice (PDF)). Female doctoral candidates receive a monthly amount of 1,000 EUR; female doctoral candidates in the field of medicine receive 735 EUR. Female postdoctoral candidates receive a monthly amount of 1,750 EUR. A materials allowance is granted as well as a child allowance if applicable. A Philipps-Universität completion scholarship is only granted if the scholarship holder is receiving no other scholarship from public or private funds. Income from employment and transfer payments (earnings before taxes) are deducted from the scholarship. However, additional income from academic employment or activities of up to 500 EUR per month while receiving the scholarship is possible. Living-abroad allowances are not granted. A final report has to be submitted four weeks after the end of the scholarship at the latest.

Applications may be submitted online only. In the pdf document attached, you can find more detailed information on the award criteria for the completion scholarships (PDF). Please see the current call for applications for further information on application requirements, the application process, application deadline, and documents to be submitted.
