Working Group 24 IdeasCultures – Interdisciplinary Cultural Research Colloquium (2013–2017)

"Culture" is a focus of research and teaching at many university departments. "Political culture" in political science, "cultural sociology" in sociology, "cultural development" in ethnology, "cultural techniques" in the arts and visual sciences, "cultural philosophy" in philosophy, "religious culture" in the study of religions – the idea of culture is always an interdisciplinary subject. To date there has not been a platform that ties together the cultural research performed in the various departments and academic institutions of Philipps-Universität Marburg. The Working Group IdeasCultures – Interdisciplinary Cultural Research Colloquium saw itself as such a platform for the interdisciplinary exchange of instructors and students on issues of cultural research.

Our Objectives

1. Improved reciprocal knowledge within the university regarding trends and skills in cultural research in the individual departments
2. Contact with innovative scholars and scientists within Germany via invitations to lectures and workshops
3. Interdisciplinary networking of the colloquium with institutes for cultural research in Germany

What We Do

- Monthly interdisciplinary doctoral candidate meetings with junior scholars from Philipps-Universität on methods and topics of cultural research
- Lecture series on cultural research with methodically and/or thematically innovative speakers from Germany
- Cooperation with the International Graduate Center for the Study of Culture (GCSC) at Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen to co-organize workshops

Doctoral candidates of all departments with a methodical and/or thematic focus on cultural research were cordially invited to actively participate with inputs or assisting the Working Group with organizational tasks.
