Spare time activities
A first, introductory overview of activities that you might find interesting for recreation in Marburg is available on the University’s website.
An overview over current events (concerts, expositions, stage performances, etc.) is, for instance, to be found in the magazine Marburger Express. It is released on a weekly basis; free, take-away copies are obtainable in many places on campus or in restaurants and bars.
The “Marburg App,” launched on Nov 5 2012, is a smartphone application that offers up-to-date information on the city of Marburg and the Philipps-Universität covering information on cultural events, service-related issues and public transportation as well as information on university-related matters (meal plans, services, contacts etc.). The App can be downloaded in the Apple App Store or in Google Playstore.
Events organized by the International Office
On a regular basis, the International Office of the Philipps-Universität offers interesting trips and excursions with the aim of introducing international students to Germany, its history, culture and people. These ‘getaways’ take place mainly during the lecture period and are either completely free of charge or very low-priced.
Tip for a special spare-time activity:
Dramarasmus – Join the theater adventure!
Dramarasmus is an European theater project which aims to unite international and German students. Playing theater will offer you the opportunity to experience values such as trust, respect and solidarity. In short, this group sees the theater as a place of and for intensive encounters. The motto of Dramarasmus: I play, therefore I am. During the semester, the members of Dramarasmus meet in weekly workshops. At the end of the semester, the group will present what they have rehearsed. International students will have the opportunity to improve their German within the Dramarasmus project. Everybody who is interested in playing theater is welcome!
