Olayinka Idowu Kareem is a Georg Forster
Research Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung/Foundation
at the Chair of Development and Cooperative Economics, Marburg School of
Business and Economics, University of Marburg, Marburg, Germany.
Prior to this, he
was a Jean Monnet Postdoctoral Fellow in the Global Economics: Trade, Investment
and Development research strand of the Global Governance Programme - Robert
Schuman Centre for Advanced Study - at the European University Institute,
under the Directorship of Prof. Bernard Hoekman. Besides, he
was a Global South Scholar at the Graduate Institute in Geneva, a Senior Research
fellow of the Centre for Public-Private Cooperation (CPPC), an Associate Member
of UNCTAD Virtual Institute and a member of the International Economic
Relations Network (IERN), University of Barcelona. He was a Fellow of the
Journal of African Economies, Centre for the Study of African Economies (CSAE),
Department of Economics, University of Oxford and Senior Member of St’
Anthony’s College, University of Oxford. Dr. Kareem was formerly an Impact
Evaluation Field Coordinator at
the World Bank Nigeria Country Office on Commercial Agriculture Development
Project (CADP), and has also consulted for UNCTAD Virtual Institute in the
Trade and Poverty Project, the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) in
the Analyses of Contemporary Protectionism Project, as well as had research
collaborations with the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI).
Kareem is an economist that specialised in trade, trade policies, and
development issues and has written extensively in these areas of economics.

a recipient of the Global Development Network (GDN) First Prize Award for
the Medals for Research on Development in the Thematic Category: Determinants
of Growth, Industrial and Trade Policies, 2014; AGRODEP Research Valorization
Grant, 2014 & 2015; the World Bank
- International Economic Association (IEA) Award to Young African Scholars
Program (YASP), 2014; International Development Research Centre (IDRC)
Doctoral Research Award, 2008; among others. He received his PhD in Economics
from University of Ibadan (Nigeria); he has
held teaching positions in Nigeria.
