The University Society of Münster has honored Dr. Susanne Meinert (left) from the Institute of Translational Psychiatry with its 2026 Research Promotion Award.

For the first time, three outstanding early-career researchers were recognized instead of the usual two. Each award is endowed with €5,000, generously supported by Stadtwerke Münster and VR Bank Westfalen-Lippe.

Dr. Meinert’s research lies at the intersection of neuroscience, clinical psychiatry, and psychotherapy. She investigates how mental disorders such as depression emerge, how they affect the brain, and how risk factors shape mental health trajectories across the lifespan.

A central focus of her work is child and adolescent mental health. Early-life adversity — for example through family conflict or maltreatment — can leave lasting traces in the developing brain and influence psychological well-being far into adulthood.

“My goal is to identify mental disorders as early as possible, so that children and families receive the support they need,” Dr. Meinert emphasizes. The award recognizes her interdisciplinary contributions and her commitment to improving prevention and care for young people.

We warmly congratulate Dr. Meinert on the honoring of her work!
