The focus in our lab is on arginine methylation
of histones and chromatin-associated proteins. Arginine methylation is
a posttranslational modification, which has only recently been shown to
play an important role in transcriptional control. Since many
transcriptional regulators are deregulated in cancer and other
diseases, we are interested in characterising
- the gene regulatory pathways that are in control of arginine
methyltransferases in mammalian cells
- the molecular mechanisms by which arginine methylation affects
- how the enzymatic activitiy of arginine methyltransferases can be
- diseases which show mutation, misexpression or deregulation of
these enzymes and their targets.
