The key goal of the International Research Training Group (IRTG) The Brain in Action – BrainAct is to deepen our understanding of the neural systems and processes that underlie perception and action in everyday living. Three interrelated aspects of these processes will be at the scientific core of our IRTG: (i) Action control in natural environments, which comprises (ii) Multisensory perception for action, and (ii) Internal encoding of action-space.

The IRTG brings together researchers from psychology, physics, kinesiology, engineering, bio-medical sciences and medicine. We are convinced that future progress in the field of systems neuroscience critically depends on researchers with an in-depth training in relevant experimental techniques and a broad knowledge of pertinent theoretical frameworks. To this end, German and Canadian partners with longstanding and internationally renowned expertise in systems neuroscience will join forces to combine top-level interdisciplinary research with state-of-the-art training of doctoral candidates.
