Parvin Alizadeh was born and raised in Iran where she did her first university degree. Parvin completed her doctoral dissertation at the University of Sussex in Brighton, UK, in 1985. She worked as a lecturer in economics at Keynes College, Kent university, UK over 1988-1990. She was a principal lecturer of Economics at London Metropolitan University where she worked for 17 years. Parvin also taught as an associate professor of economics at Denison University, Ohio, USA over 2000-2003. She has also worked as a consultant for the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the World Bank. Her main research interests are in “Women’s empowerment”, and “Economic development of the Middle East with focus on Iran”.  She has published in the Journal of International Development, International Journal of Interdisciplinary Social science, and the Brown Journal of the World Affairs. She has edited and co-edited two books on the Iranian economy.  Her co-edited book With Hassan Hakimian- Iran and the Global Economy; Petro populism, Islam and Economic Sanctions- was published by Routledge in 2014. Parvin is also a board member of the International Iranian Economics Association (IIEA). She is currently a subject area coordinator and lecturer in Economics at Boston University, Study abroad, London Program.
