Climate Change, Environmental Exposure and Human Health:
Impacts and Prevention Strategies

Interdisciplinary Conference 2027

6-8 September 2027
Marburg University, Marburg, Germany
Medium: English

As part of the 500th anniversary celebrations of Marburg University, the HABITAT project invites researchers, healthcare professionals and other interested experts to contribute to an interdisciplinary conference on the links between climate change, environmental exposure and human health.

Climate change and extreme weather events, both in Germany and worldwide, are increasingly recognized as important factors for health outcomes. Air pollution, heat, changing weather and environmental conditions adversely affect vulnerable populations and may increase the risks of acute health events. At the same time, changing patterns of illnesses and demographic characteristics present new challenges for healthcare systems, and require new approaches that combine understanding of health risks, prevention and adaptation.

The conference will provide an opportunity to discuss recent findings and experiences in the field of climate change and health with other researchers and experts. The conference will be held in a small and interdisciplinary format, encouraging and fostering exchange, discussion and networking between participants.

  • Conference Themes

Contributions are welcome on the following topics, but not limited to:

    • Environmental exposures and vulnerable populations/ individuals
    • Extreme weather events and acute health outcomes
    • Cardiovascular and respiratory outcomes in a changing climate
    • Maternal-fetal health and climate-related risks
    • Artificial intelligence, machine learning and predictive models for health
    • Digital approaches for climate-health risks
    • Climate related challenges for healthcare system and relevant prevention strategies
    • Climate impacts on health care services and adaptation strategies
    • Societal and stakeholders’ response to climate-health challenges

About HABITAT:

The HABITAT project brings together expertise from medicine, environmental and climate research to investigate how weather and environmental factors interact with individual characteristics and health conditions. A particular focus is placed on understanding and predicting the individual health risks and supporting preventive strategies.
