The INCOPS Project proudly presents its latest publication, "Ethics and Security of Peace and Conflict Students during their Work-based Learning Activities," authored by Chris Borgh, Luuk Slooter and Koen Hoogendoorn. This comprehensive report unveils essential guidelines aimed at ensuring ethical and secure Work-based Learning (WBL) activities for students pursuing higher education in Peace, Conflict, and Security (PCS) master programmes.

Drawing from a literature review and comprehensive questionnaire responses from partner universities (cf. Intellectual Output 5), the report identifies best practices essential for upholding ethical standards and ensuring the security and well-being of students engaged in WBL activities.

Highlighting the critical importance of ethical and security concerns in WBL, the findings stress the necessity of prioritizing these aspects to safeguard both student well-being and the individuals they engage with during their activities. The report recommends partner universities to establish clear, written policies on ethics and security, ensuring effective communication of these policies to students and relevant stakeholders.

The guidelines propose a multi-faceted approach involving adequate training and support for students embarking on WBL activities. This includes comprehensive training on ethical considerations, security measures, and risk management. Furthermore, the guidelines underscore the necessity of establishing transparent communication channels among students, supervisors, and stakeholders to promptly address ethical and security concerns.

Emphasizing the significance of continuous monitoring and evaluation of WBL activities, the report advocates for proactive identification and mitigation of potential ethical and security risks. Clear reporting mechanisms are recommended for students to report any encountered ethical or security concerns during their WBL engagements.

The report also encourages collaborative efforts between universities and various stakeholders such as employers, policymakers, and civil society organizations. Such collaborations are proposed to develop and implement ethical and security guidelines, ensuring that WBL activities uphold ethical standards and prioritize the security and well-being of all involved stakeholders.
