B: Regulation and stress response to environmental changes

The aim of this project area is to elucidate the molecular mechanistic regulation of the chloroplast stress response in order to understand the adaptation of photosynthetic and CO2-concentrating/fixing activities of the chloroplast - as studied in A1 and A2 - in a changing environment and to programme for more robust responses. The main focus is on the control of chloroplastid gene expression (B1), (co)translational regulation (B2), the role of secondary messengers (B3) and radical oxygen species (B4) in the stress response, and the role of recently discovered NAD+-modified mRNAs in organelle-nucleus communication (B5).
