C: Synthetic biological methods for characterizing and programming new chloroplast functions
The focus of this project area is the development and application of new methods for synthetic biology. This includes, on the one hand, the development of cell-free or in vitro translation/transcription (TXTL) systems to enable high-throughput characterization of genetic and metabolic networks and regulatory mechanisms in a chloroplast-like environment (C1). On the other hand, standardized, automated methods for synthesis (C2) and the synthesis of completely artificial chloroplast genomes will be established (C3).
