Together with the Max-Planck-Institute for terrestrial microbiology, the Center for Synthetic Microbiology (Synmikro) organised a stand at the University's summer fair on July 14th, 2023. Here, the LOEWE research cluster Tree-M as one of the cooperative projects between Synmikro and the MPI (and the JLU Gießen) presented itself. Zina Morbach, project coordinator of Tree-M, and Lisa Bald, data analyst of the project, discussed with the interested members of the university and the public the microbiological research conducted in Tree-M and explained the concept of tree cloning, which is essential to this work. Oak clones of different developmental stages as well as plates with microbes collected from oak leaves were kindly provided by the research groups of Lars Opgenoorth and Robert Junker. Besides informing the interested public, the summer fair also provided a fantastic opportunity to meet up with other reseachers and discuss questions of science in a relaxed atmosphere.
