Epitaxial Growth, Quantitative Structural Analysis and Device Applications of Semiconductor Hetero- and Nanostructures


The main research topics focus on the field of epitaxial growth by metalorganic vapour phase epitaxy (MOVPE), quantitative structural analysis of compound semiconductor heterostructures and nanostructures as well as other novel functional materials, correlation of the transport and optical properties of semiconductor heterostructures with structural characteristics, realization of novel material systems and application to specific (opto)electronic device structures. The interdisciplinary research approach is manifested by close cooperations with a variety of research groups in chemistry, structural analysis, surface physics, spectroscopy, solid state theory and device physics and device applications both at the Philipps-University (Marburg) and academic and institutional research partners worldwide (Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems Freiburg, Fraunhofer Institute for Solid State Physics Freiburg, Ernst-Ruska-Center Jülich, Ruhr-University Bochum, Tyndall Research Center Cork (Ireland), University of Arizona Tucson (US), Universidad Polytechnica Madrid (Spain), University Surrey (UK), University Stanford (US)).

These research efforts are financially supported by various research contracts by the German Science Foundation (DFG) also within the Topical Research Group 483 "Metastable Compound Semiconductor Materials and Heterostructures", the DFG-Heisenberg-Professorshipprogram and the Research Training Group "Functionalization of Semiconductors (GRK 1782)", by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) within the Joint Research Programs "MISTRAL", "Spintronics in Semiconductors", "III/V-solar cells on Si", and  "MonoLaSi", by the European Union in the FP6-program "FULLSPECTRUM" and the FP7-program "BIANCHO" as well as by direct cooperations with industry partners such as Aixtron AG, CIP, Dockweiler Chemicals, Osram Opto-Semiconductors, NLCSTR, NAsP III/V, Seidel and H. C. Starck.
