Project: DNA Segregation by the ParABS System: Cooperative Binding and Its Role in Faithful Inheritance of Genetic Material

Project summary:
Arsenic contamination poses significant threats to environmental and human health, necessitating precise analytical tools to address its complex speciation and dynamics. This project focuses on developing an advanced pipeline for arsenic analysis, combining refined HPLC-ICP-MS workflows with high-resolution mass spectrometry imaging (MSI). These methods will enable accurate quantification and spatial mapping of arsenic species, including challenging organoarsenicals, under environmentally relevant conditions. Using rice rhizospheres as a model, the project will elucidate microscale transformations of arsenic in dynamic environments. In collaboration with Dr. Judith Klatt at the Microcosm Earth Center, this work bridges analytical chemistry and environmental science, paving the way for innovative approaches to arsenic remediation and advancing our understanding of biogeochemical processes.
