Prof. Jeffrey Klenotic
Jeffrey Klenotic is a Professor of Communication Arts at the University of New Hampshire, where he has mapped the history of film exhibition in the state including recovering the work of women exhibitors in the 1910s and 1920s. In 2003, he helped found the History of Moviegoing, Exhibition and Reception (HoMER) research network, and began work on Mapping Movies, a desktop spatial humanities project that was among the first to use Geographic Information System (GIS) tools for researching and visualizing the social and spatial history of moviegoing. In 2013, Mapping Movies moved online as an open-ended, interactive mapping website built on a WebGIS platform developed and hosted at the University of New Hampshire. In 2023, the project began migrating to cloud GIS platforms in an ongoing effort to facilitate the exploration and exchange of data in and through online maps.
Klenotic’s publications have appeared in leading journals such as TMG/Journal for Media History, Senses of Cinema, Film History: An International Journal, Communication Review, and Images: The International Journal of Film, Performing Arts and Audio Visual Communication, as well as in numerous books and encyclopaedias. His work has been recognised with awards for both research and teaching.
