Microbes-for-Climate (M4C) Initiative

Located in the middle of Germany and connected worldwide, Marburg provides home to more than 400 scientists from 30+ nations that investigate the molecular function of the most diverse and most abundant lifeforms on this planet: microbes.

Organized in more than 40 microbiology research groups on one Science Campus that is shared by the University of Marburg and the Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology, Marburg is one of the largest and most dynamic microbiology research sites in Germany and Europe.

Microbiological research in Marburg is inter- and transdisciplinary and highly collaborative and focuses on the molecular interaction of microbes with their environment. In the Microbes-for-Climate cluster, biologists, chemists, physicists and engineers come together to study the essential role of microorganisms in climate change and develop an integrated, microbe-centered view on the history, the presence, and potential futures of the carbon cycle.
