Material Encounters with Religious Atmosphere

Materialities pose key components among the various ingredients that compose religious atmosphere. Embedding case studies from the Research Training Group’s projects into a theory-based micro-analysis on materialities (including objects, spatial and bodily contextualisation), we wish to discuss the role of materialities in shaping religious atmospheres. An expert on ancient material religion, Emma-Jayne Graham (The Open University, UK), guides our dialogue and theoretical exercise. Thus, the workshop fosters a methodological access to analyse religious atmosphere in ancient cultures and an interdisciplinary exchange of ideas.
