25.07.2026 First Colloquium for GenDem Ph.D. Students and Postdocs
On July 17, members of the LOEWE GenDem research cluster who are currently in their qualification phase had the opportunity to exchange ideas with one another and with their mentors!
The workshop at the Herder Institute focused on networking and discussing similar challenges in the qualification process, as well as providing practical insights into academic career paths.
This event was attended not only by postdocs, and doctoral candidates of the LOEWE research cluster GenDem, but also by student and research assistants, as well as staff members who are pursuing academic continuing education on a part-time basis – all of whom were warmly welcomed.
Also present were some of the supervisors of the qualifying theses, with whom participants were able to discuss needs and requirements in one-on-one conversations – both in small and large group discussions, as well as during the group lunch held outdoors.
The roundtable discussions also covered disciplinary requirements, mentoring structures, time management, and publication strategies. Concerns and fears related to the qualification phase were also addressed and were part of the group discussion.
This successful kickoff laid the foundation for ongoing professional exchange and mutual support among researchers in the LOEWE GenDem research cluster.
The next colloquium will take place in October 2026 in Giessen and will focus, among other things, on research methods, research ethics, self-care, and academic publishing.
