20.08.2025 Publication: Optical signatures of interlayer electron coherence in a bilayer semiconductor
Article by Nadine Leisgang et. al. published in the scientific magazine Nature Physics
We recently observed an unconventional hybridization between interlayer excitons in a doped bilayer semiconductor, comprised of two layers of molybdenum disulfide (MoS₂). We argue that the observed phenomenon is indicative of a spatially fluctuating order-parameter in the form of interlayer electron coherence – a theoretically predicted many-body state that has yet to be unambiguously established experimentally outside the quantum Hall regime. Our work has been highlighted in a Nature Physics News & Views Article and covered by Phys.Org News.
