LOEWE Projects

LOEWE is the title of the research funding programm of the state Hessen. With this programm the state government supports the universities and research institutions in Hessen continously developing their profile and reaching their strategic goals.
TreeM

Tree-M is a research cluster investigating the interactions between microbial communities and their biotic and abiotic environments in forest canopies, from molecular processes to ecosystem dynamics, with the aim of supporting forest health under global change.
PhytOakMeter

PhytOakmeter is a research project investigating how trees and their associated microbiome respond and adapt to environmental stress, combining controlled experiments and field studies to better understand resilience to climate change.
HABITAT

HABITAT is a research project that aims to develop AI-based forecasting systems to predict individual health risks associated with weather and environmental conditions, enabling early warnings, behavioural adaptation, and improved healthcare resource planning under climate change.
RESPECT

RESPECT is a research project that integrates trait-based approaches and ecosystem modelling to understand and project how climate and land-use change affect biodiversity, ecosystem functioning, and ecosystem resistance in tropical mountain and dry forest ecosystems, including feedback effects between biodiversity and the atmosphere.
RemoTrees

RemoTrees is a research project that aims to design and develop an innovative IoT-based in-situ forest monitoring system for remote and hard-to-reach areas, combining sensor networks, satellite communication, and Earth observation data to improve understanding of climate change impacts on forests and support comprehensive ecosystem monitoring.
DARWIN

DARWIN is a research project that aims to understand rainfall dynamics and water availability in the Galápagos archipelago, focusing on how different rainfall types and extreme events interact with climate, ocean, and topography to shape freshwater resources and support sustainable development under climate change.
