Regulations for using the electron microscope equipment

Conditions for use

The costs of routine consumables, maintenance and other day-to-day costs are proportionally raised through a user-pays system. In 2007 we introduced an electronic system based on smart cards to control the access to principle instruments by user authentication, and to log the actual measuring time (session/beam time). It works in connection with a common instrument booking system.

Internal users

All users must first be registered using an application form signed by her/his supervisor. After being registered the access to the different instruments through a smart card will be provided.

Students/staff members with own experience in using the instruments will get a brief introduction, afterwards they work independently and make their own reservations in the online-booking system. Please, note the weekly time schedule when reserving the JEM-3010.

Students/staff members without own experience in using the instruments need assistance by the staff. The online-reservation should be made in agreement with the responsible staff member. If desired, users may become trained to work on their own.

User groups are charged for their actual instrument usage time at a nominally low rate, the group leaders will receive billing every half year.

External customers

Customers from industry or other non-university institutions should place their requests and ordering of electron microscopic/microanalytical service investigations via the TransMIT-Gesellschaft für Technologietransfer mbH.
